It was 11pm I was Just a college girl walking on Winthrop St I was Just buying groceries I was Thinking about my friend’s birthday I was Carrying a bag from the Mini Mart I was Going home to bake a cake. You were Driving down Winthrop You were High, I smelt the weed from your black car You were Stopping along the curb I was Confused, scared You were Asking me if I smoke I responded no. You were Persistent, asking me If I drink or anything Your eyes Looked desperate And I said no, I don’t drink You said, angrily “Well, do you wanna make out or something?” As if my body Was made for you As if I was suppose to say yes I whispered a barely audible no, And walked briskly You drove away But I still Picked up my feet, And I ran faster and faster. All I wanted was to Bake a cake and wish my friend A happy birthday.
